Jerry led 7 successful concerts with the New York Philharmonic, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Young People’s Concerts. Begun by Ernest Schelling in 1924, he designed the concerts to encourage a love of music in children, augmenting the music with demonstrations and talks featuring picture slideshows about composers, instruments, history, and other educational topics. The concerts gained popular fame when Leonard Bernstein presented them for television broadcast during his tenure as music director of the Philharmonic. The concerts this January focused on the theme of “Imagination” and featured music of Mussorgsky/Ravel and participants of the Very Young Composers program.
